Fall 2023

Open Mountains is offering a 1-day choose your own adventure event on September 10 to celebrate queer community in Revelstoke!

Open to queers and allies from age 16 years+. Priority will be given to people with intersectional identities.

All sports will be introductory level, with a guide and instruction provided, so no previous experience is required. Equipment can be provided if requested. Every activity will be “challenge by choice”, accessible to most bodies and paced by the participant's needs.

Event fee is $30, we will have some scholarship spots. We’re accepting rolling applications until September 8th.

Made possible by the support of:

Activities

  • Sport Climbing

Join us for a day of climbing led by local IFMGA mountain guide Jules Howatt and ACMG top rope climbing instructor Janet Wong.

All levels please apply but we will be focusing on introduction to climbing and climbing foundations.

Open Mountains can supply shoes, harness and climbing helmets.

  • Hiking

Come for a walk in the mountains with Tim Patterson, ACMG hiking guide and Indigenous Knowledge Keeper assisted by ACMG apprentice hiking guide Nat Segal.

Hiking terrain will be chosen based on the groups skill level and fitness at a local Revelstoke mountain trail.

Open Mountains can supply hiking packs and waterproof outerwear.

  • Paddling

Pick your flotation device of choice! Guides Maris and Geoff from the Revelstoke Paddlesports Association will be running a one-day intro to paddling including SUP, kayak or canoe depending on the group.

RPA have generously donated their time, personal flotation devices and other gear to make this possible, along with other community members who can donate water crafts.
