Mountain Pride

Mountain Academy

Saturday, June 28th, 2025 - 8 am to 4 pm

A one-day choose-your-own-adventure event to celebrate queer community in Revelstoke!

With support from local partners we will be offering top rope climbing, mountain biking, white water kayaking and a trail running workshop.

The program is open to 2SLGBTQ+ folks and allies from age 15 years+. Priority will be given to folks with intersectional identities.

All sports will be offered at introductory level, with a possibility for intermediate groups based on participant abilities. Guiding and instruction will be provided by certified ACMG guides and instructors.

Every activity will be “challenge by choice”, accessible to most bodies and paced by the participant's needs. 

  • Cost per activity will be $50 per person.

  • Financial subsidies are available for participants who require support.

  • Equipment can be provided from the Open Mountains gear locker and local partners if requested, at no charge.

  • No previous experience in the activity required.

  • Top Rope Climbing

    Join Open Mountains for a day of climbing led by local ACMG guides.

    In this course, we will be focusing on introduction to climbing and climbing foundations, with room to offer other options depending on ability levels. Beginners strongly encouraged to apply!

    Open Mountains can supply shoes, harness and climbing helmets as needed.

  • Mountain Biking

    Join Shred Sisters for a fun and skill-building day on the trails!

    Choose between our Beginner or Intermediate level clinic, designed to meet you where you're at in your mountain biking journey.

    Whether you're new to the sport or looking to refine your technique, our experienced coaches are excited to ride with you and share our passion for mountain biking.

    Let's build confidence, skills, and stoke—together!

  • Whitewater Kayaking

    Join the Revelstoke Paddle Association for an intro to whitewater kayaking course designed to build your skills and confidence in a safe and fun environment.

    This flatwater session takes place on a calm lake and covers essential techniques including: - the wet exit; - T-rescues; -rolling basics; - foundational paddling strokes.

    This course is your first step towards navigating moving water with ease, perfect for beginners! You must be able to swim to participate.

  • Trail Running

    Join Keystone Health for a half-day clinic to learn the ups and downs of trail running.

    In this course, you will learn about the basics of running mechanics, and how they vary depending on environment and pacing.

    We will cover the following topics such as: - gentle uphill; - steep uphill; - on the flats; - gentle downhill; - steep downhill; -items to consider carrying with you; - common overuse injuries and how to mitigate them.

    This will be followed by an easy group trail run to practice and implement the taught techniques. 

Registration

Waiver Requirement: All participants (or their parent/legal guardian for individuals under 19) must read and agree to Open Mountains Project Release of Liability, Waiver of Claims, Assumption of Risk and Indemnity Agreement (the “Waiver”) as a condition of participating. If the Waiver is not completed, the individual will not be permitted to participate. A paper copy of the Waiver will be presented at the start of the activity. 

The Waiver is a legal document whereby you waive your legal rights to sue or seek compensation following an accident. PLEASE READ IT CAREFULLY PRIOR TO REGISTERING!

Open Mountains Project - Mountain Bike Waiver

The mountain biking program will be provided by Shred Sisters. Below is their categories for skill level:

Beginner Clinic
Perfect for those new to mountain biking or looking to build a solid foundation. We’ll cover body positioning, braking, climbing and descending techniques, and navigating basic trail features—all in a supportive and encouraging environment. NO EXPERIENCED REQUIRED

Intermediate Clinic
Designed for riders with some trail experience who are ready to boost their confidence on more technical terrain. We'll focus on cornering, small roll-downs and drops, line choice, and improving flow and control on singletrack.

Queer Village

Sunday, June 29th, 2025 - 10 am to 4 pm
