QTBIPOC CLIMBING CAMP
Open Mountains is offering a 3- day guided climbing camp focused on basic skills development for climbers who identify as QTBIPOC.
Event schedule and description :
DAY 1 - Introduction to rock climbing techniques, belay techniques, and top-rope climbing.
DAY 2 - Continued skills progression, including rappelling technique.
DAY 3 - Skills progression in climbing, belay, and rappelling techniques.
This camp is suitable for folks who:
Are comfortable with vertical or near-vertical rock climbing, and are able to hike on rocky trails to access climbing areas.
Have some experience with basic climbing, and want to develop their skills further.
Have completed a minimum of several days of top-rope climbing in the past.
Are 16 years or older.
The course will offer:
A supportive, respectful learning environment led by ACMG-certified guides who are also gender minorities and/or QTBIPOC individuals.
Introduction and skills progression in basic to intermediate climbing movement, belay techniques, rappelling, and rope management.
Personalized coaching on how to improve climbing movement skills, become more efficient, and find deeper joy in climbing.
Equipment loans available free of charge:
Rock climbing helmet, shoes, harness, belay device, and locking carabiner.
Participant Requirements:
Available to attend all days, August 29th-August 31st, 2025.
Skill level - basic to intermediate; some minimal climbing experience is an asset.
Allies are encouraged to apply but preference will be given to 2SLGBTQ+ and BIPOC community members. Priority will also be given to those who reside in Revelstoke but all community members.
Registration
Course Fees: $80 per person
Thanks to the support of our partners, we are able to offer the camp for a commitment cost of $80 per participant.
We understand that this fee may still be a barrier for participation. With that in mind a generosity policy applies, only pay what you can!
Please reach out via email if you wish to discuss this further, as we have some fully subsidized spots available.
Waiver Requirement: All participants (or their parent/legal guardian for individuals under 19) must read and agree to Open Mountains Project Release of Liability, Waiver of Claims, Assumption of Risk and Indemnity Agreement (the “Waiver”) as a condition of participating. If the Waiver is not completed, the individual will not be permitted to participate. A paper copy of the Waiver will be presented at the start of the activity.
The Waiver is a legal document whereby you waive your legal rights to sue or seek compensation following an accident.
